Understanding the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC)
The Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) is an agreement that allows nurses to have one multistate license with the ability to practice in all compact states. This compact increases access to care and nurse mobility across the U.S.
As of January 2025, 41 states are part of the NLC, including Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Texas, and Virginia. Nurses who are legal residents of a compact state and meet the uniform licensure requirements are eligible for a multistate license.
Steps to Obtain a Nursing License
