From the natural beauty of the Ozarks to the hustle and bustle of Little Rock, Arkansas has something for everyone. Here’s what you need to know for a smooth arrival and some fun downtime during your assignment.
Flying In: Airports and Getting Around
Flying into Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport in Little Rock? Or maybe you’re landing at one of the smaller regional airports? Here’s what you should know:
Lounges & Snacks: Little Rock Airport has a couple of cozy lounges, but if you're just passing through, you can grab some Arkansas-made snacks like local jerky or sweets at the airport shops.
Rental Cars: Renting a car is a good idea if you're in Little Rock or planning to explore outside of the city. The airport has all the rental agencies you’ll need, and it’s pretty simple to get on the road.
Rideshare: Uber and Lyft are available in Little Rock and other cities like Fayetteville, so you’ll have no trouble getting around. Perfect for quick trips to your assignment or local restaurants!
Public Transportation: Little Rock has a bus system, but if you’re headed to a smaller town, a rental car will definitely be more convenient.
Settling In: Housing and Grocery Tips
Once you’re settled into your housing, it’s time to think about getting some groceries and getting comfortable.
Grocery Shopping on Your Own: If you’re up for it, hit up local farmers markets like the Hillcrest Farmers Market in Little Rock, where you can find fresh produce and local specialties. There’s also the Arkansas Foodbank Market if you’re looking for great deals.
Coffee, Shopping, and Dining Out: My Favorite Local Spots
Coffee Shops: If you’re a coffee lover like me, you’ll want to check out Blue Sail Coffee in Little Rock. Their brews are delicious and local. If you’re in the northwest part of the state, check out Onyx Coffee Lab in Fayetteville for some of the best local roasts.
Boutiques & Shopping: Little Rock has a great mix of quirky boutiques and antique stores. The Heights is a must-visit neighborhood if you love shopping. In Fayetteville, check out the Dickson Street area for an eclectic mix of shops and local art.
Food & Drinks: Arkansas is known for its Southern comfort food, and you’ll want to dive in. In Little Rock, check out The Root Café for a fresh take on Southern classics, and don’t miss Whole Hog Cafe for some of the best BBQ around. If you’re in Fayetteville, Hugo’s is a must for their famous burgers and laid-back atmosphere.
Museums & Culture: Arkansas has some great museums to check out. The Arkansas Arts Center in Little Rock is an art lover’s dream, while the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville offers incredible exhibits in a stunning setting.
Things to Do When You’re Off Shift
When you’re not working, Arkansas is the perfect place to explore:

Football Season: Catch a Game When You're in Arkansas
If you’re on assignment during football season, there’s no better place than Arkansas to dive into college football culture. Here’s what you can catch:
University of Arkansas Razorbacks: Whether you’re in Little Rock or Fayetteville, the Razorbacks are the pride of the state. Get your red and white gear on and head over to Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium in Fayetteville for a game-day experience you won’t forget. The energy is contagious, and the tailgating is legendary.
Little Rock Trojans: If you’re in Little Rock, the UALR Trojans have some great games too, so you can check out the college sports vibe closer to home.
